Press release: INESSS recommends the creation of one or more Lyme disease reference centers
The Association québécoise de la maladie de Lyme (AQML) is delighted with this INESSS recommendation, which creates a wave of hope for patients suffering from Lyme disease and its co-infections (1).
Indeed, a center or centers dedicated to Lyme disease and its co-infections can only be of benefit to all. The integration of clinical practice and research will benefit both patients, who all too often find themselves in medical limbo; physicians, who will be able to develop clinical expertise in Lyme disease and its co-infections, while benefiting from the support of specialists and researchers; and the researchers involved, who will be at the cutting edge of research developments in this field, and will be able to provide new diagnostic and therapeutic solutions.
The Association québécoise de la maladie de Lyme (AQML) would like to meet with the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, as soon as possible, to request that this INESSS recommendation be implemented. The AQML also wishes to offer its collaboration and resources to ensure the development of one or more reference centers for Lyme disease and its co-infections.

More than 10,000 people in Quebec have not been diagnosed with Lyme disease since 2007, and this number is set to increase by 3,000 per year, according to our projections based on reports from the Direction de la vigie sanitaire, MSSS. Data extracted from Fichier MADO 2007-2020 and studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
